Why No. 21?: It was during the 2006-2007 season that Valencia CF took him in, as a replacement for the departing play-maker Pablo Aimar, hence DS taking his No. 21 shirt.
In an interview with Umbro he said: “When I moved up to the first team with Valencia, in the second division that was the number that was left and I was given it, and from then on, as I wore it, well, the truth is it brought me good luck. Valerón (Juan Carlos Valerón), who is from my town, also wears that number. He has been an inspiration for me for many years and so this, and because I have worn it since my first day, is another reason why I wear it.”
